Columbia Water & Light will start moving the overhead electric lines underground that feed street lights along Broadway on Monday, May 19. The work will mainly occur along the curb on the south side of Broadway, from 8th Street to Hitt Street and on the north side of Broadway from 9th Street to Hitt. There will also be some work along the side streets to connect to the existing underground street light conduit. The construction will be completed in sections over the next several months. Traffic should not be impacted but sections of the sidewalks will be closed and parking restricted.
Most of the electric distribution lines that provide electricity for customers in the downtown area are underground. However, when the concrete canopy along Broadway was removed, the wiring for the street lights remained overhead. This project will move these street light lines underground.
