Contact: Battalion Chief Brad Fraizer, Fire Marshal
Monday through Friday 8am - 5pm
The Columbia Fire Department was dispatched to a commercial structure fire at 3412 Grindstone Parkway on Thursday July 25, 2013 at 7:31pm. Crews arrived four minutes later and found flames and smoke coming from the roof directly above Jose Jalapenos.
Fire department personnel, using an aerial device with an elevated water stream, performed a rapid fire attack and brought the incident under control in less than ten minutes. Crews spent an additional hour overhauling the roof area looking for hot spots.
Assistant Fire Marshal Jim Pasley was dispatched to investigate. He determined the fire originated in roofing material that was stacked on the roof. Roof repair work was being performed earlier in the day. A propane tank was also involved and fueling the fire. The cause is still under investigation. Damage is estimated at approximately $7,000.
Five aerial apparatus, one ladder truck and a rescue squad responded to this event. No one was injured.
