My name is Stephen Monticelli, and I am the commander of the Columbia Police Department’s Patrol Division. That means I have the honor of leading 96 of the hardest working people in our fine organization.
The Patrol Division will likely be the first interaction the public will have with our Department. The men and women of the Patrol Division answer your calls for service 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. The City of Columbia is divided into sixteen patrol beats.
Currently, the Patrol Division is under the Command of a Captain, who is assisted by two Patrol Lieutenants, Lieutenant Dianne Bernhard and Lieutenant Scott Young, who serve as Shift Commanders of the five shifts. Each of the daily five shifts are under the supervision of patrol sergeants. The 83 officers assigned to the Patrol Division are assigned to one of the five shifts that make up around the clock service team. The five shifts are, Shift One: 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Shift Two: 2:00 PM to 12:00 AM, Shift Three: 5:00 PM to 3:00 AM, Shift Four: 6:00 PM to 4:00 AM, and Shift Five: 9:00 PM to 7:00 AM.
Lieutenant Bernhard is shift commander over Shift One and Two and is assisted by Sergeants Roger Allen, Will Green, Chris Kelley, Ken Gregory, Dan Beckman, and Barb Buck. Lieutenant Young is shift commander over Shift Three, Four, and Five and is assisted by Sergeants Shelley Jones, Don Hawkins, Bruce Houston, Mike Maynard, Candy Cornman, Roger Schlude, and Krista Shouse-Jones.
The Patrol Division also has two Canine Teams assigned to Shift Two and Shift Three that aid the officers in drug searches, tracks for individuals and property, and protection.
