2009 Youth Golf Classes, Camp and League

Registration for all classes, camp and league begins Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at the Parks & Recreation office located at 1 South 7th Street. You may also register by phone, 573-874-7460 if you would like to pay the fee with a credit card or debit card.

Classes for Youth
The Columbia Parks & Recreation Department will be offering 6 (three lesson) sessions of Junior Golf Classes. These classes are for beginners interested in learning the basics of the golf swing. Instructors will cover the grip, stance & set up, full swing techniques, rules & course etiquette, pitching & chipping and putting. The goal is to have the junior golfers gain enough knowledge about golf so they can practice, play and develop the skills they need to play for years to come. Golf clubs will be on site to borrow for the classes.

Junior Golf Camp
Golf camp is designed for the intermediate to advanced player looking to take their game to the next level. Upon completion of the camp, the juniors will also be eligible to sign up for the new Junior Golf League.

Camp will be an instruction based program covering: rules of the game, course etiquette, the full swing from the tee to approach shots, putting, short game, course management & strategy, as well as on course instruction.

Junior Golf League
The new Junior Golf League is geared for those who have participated in our golf camp and have passes our skills test.* It is custom fit for those looking to further their skills through additional instruction and weekly competition. Each Tuesday evening will consist of a one hour clinic, followed by nine holes of stroke play. Players will be expected to walk and carry their clubs. In addition, the juniors will be responsible for scoring accuracy, course etiquette and golf rules enforcement. This is a perfect opportunity for the participants to apply their skills learned on the links in a fun, yet competitive setting.

*For those who did not attend the golf camp and wish to play in the summer league, may do so by passing our new Parks & Recreation golf skills test or be recommended by their golf coach. The skills test will be held Friday, June 13, 8:30am at L.A. Nickell Golf Course.
