Mayor's Council on Physical Fitness and Health

On March 1, 1999, the Columbia City Council adopted a resolution officially establishing the Columbia Mayor's Council on Physical Fitness and Health. The mission of the Council is to improve the physical fitness and health, and enhance the quality of life of all citizens of Columbia and Boone County.

As part of that goal, the Council has created an awards program which is intended to recognize those individuals who have made a commitment to their personal health or inspired those around them. To make a nomination, please complete the Nomination Form and tell us why this individual should receive the award.

2008 Health and Fitness Expo

The Mayor's Council on Physical Fitness & Health will host the 2008 Health and Fitness Expo for the community on Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at the Activity and Recreation Center (ARC) on Ash Street. The Expo will consist of a Health and Fitness Expo from 5:30-7:30 pm and the Mayor's Award Program from 7:30-8:00 pm. Both events are free to the public.

Local health organizations, fitness companies and special lifestyle services will be on hand to educate, demonstrate and share health and fitness information and services with the community. Special services provided at the Expo include blood pressure readings, bone density scans, vision abnormality checks, skin cancer screenings and body mass index measurements. All services are provided free to the public.

2008 Fall Health and Fitness Expo

The 2008 Fall Health and Fitness Expo will partner with the Youzeum's Starlight Bike Ramble again this year to bring health and fitness information and services to the Columbia Community. The Expo will function as a pre-Ramble activity and will run from 5:30-7:30 pm on Saturday, September 27, outside the Youzeum on the corner of 7th Street and Cherry Street. The Ramble will start at 8:00 pm.
