Mosquito Spraying on the Trails -Mosquito spraying on the MKT Trail and other trail areas normally begins in May and continues into September. The spraying is typically done weekly, on Friday mornings, with a truck-mounted ultra-low volume sprayer using Anvil 2 plus 2. The product is considered safe and is approved by the EPA for mosquito control. Weekly spraying on the trails occurs between the hours of 4 AM and 8 AM on Friday. For more information please contact us at 874-7346.
To help combat the health of the community, Public Health and Human Services takes preventive measures to protect against the spread of the infected mosquitoes. One such method is to conservatively and efficiently spray infected areas with a carefully chosen adulticide, Anvil®, that does not cause harm to humans or animals when following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines.
We also apply larvicide to standing water in Columbia, monitor West Nile reported human cases, and offer free dunks and educational material available to the public at no cost.
Every year, we thoroughly review our mosquito control policy based on new guidelines and research.
