For over 50 years the
City of Columbia has been committed to providing public health services through its
Health Department.
These services prevent epidemics and the spread of disease, protect against environmental hazards, promote healthy behaviors, prevent injuries and illness, assure the quality and accessibility of health services and monitor the health of the population.

Committee Roster

Acts as an advisory board to the City Manager, health officer, and the City Council on matters pertaining to public health and animal control. Minimum qualifications of the nine member board are that two members must be physicians, one member must be a veterinarian, one member must be a nurse, one member must be a dentist, and two members are to be lay persons. All members are to be registered voters of the City. The length of terms is three years, with openings occurring in August. Check out our online calendar for the next Board of Health meeting.
