For over 50 years the
City of Columbia has been committed to providing public health services through its
Health Department.
These services prevent epidemics and the spread of disease, protect against environmental hazards, promote healthy behaviors, prevent injuries and illness, assure the quality and accessibility of health services and monitor the health of the population.

What happens if a dog or cat bites a person?

in the City, the animal shall be impounded by Animal Control or with a veterinarian for 10 days for observation
in Boone County, if the animal has proof of vaccination, the animal shall be impounded on the owner's propert or with a licensed veterinarian of the owner's choice for a period of 10 days
In Boone County, unvaccinated animals must be impounded for 10 days with a licensed veterinarian
cost of impoundment shall be paid by the owner

What should I do if my pet bites me or someone else?

notify the Animal Control Office
animal bites are serious and should not be taken lightly
victims of animal bites, however minor, should always consult a physician
file a complaint
