CITY COUNCIL MEETING - COLUMBIA, MISSOURI

APRIL 19, 2004

INTRODUCTORY

The City Council of the City of Columbia, Missouri met for a special session at 5:00 p.m., on Monday, April 19, 2004, in the Council Chamber of the City of Columbia, Missouri. The roll was taken with the following results: Council Members ASH, HINDMAN, CRAYTON, JANKU, HUTTON, LOVELESS, and JOHN were present. The City Manager, City Counselor, City Clerk and various Department Heads were also present.

NEW BUSINESS

(A) Oath of Office - Council Members Hindman, Hutton and Loveless

The City Clerk administered the Oath of Office to Mayor Hindman and Council Members Hutton and Loveless. The City Clerk presented Mayor Hindman with his framed Commission of Office. Mayor Hindman presented Council Members Hutton and Loveless with their framed Commissions of Office. They all took their places at the Council table.

(B) Comments by Mayor Hindman

Mayor Hindman thanked everyone for re-electing him Mayor. He congratulated Mr. Clark for conducting a vigorous campaign and Mr. Brooks for his efforts in running for office. He promised to continue taking a balanced and progressive approach to the issues of the community, listening to the arguments on all sides, and making his decisions based on what he thinks to be in the best interest of Columbia. Mayor Hindman introduced former Mayor McCollum and thanked her for being the chairperson for his campaign. He also recognized and thanked his campaign committee members. He noted that his wife, Axie, had also been a member of the committee and added she was a great supporter and an incredible worker. He voiced appreciation for his Council colleagues and noted that the citizens of Columbia were fortunate to have such a dedicated City Staff.

(C) Comments by Council Member Hutton

Mr. Hutton introduced his wife, Linda, who he said was tremendously supportive in his Council activities, and his daughter, Laura. He thanked the voters for allowing him the honor and privilege of serving on the City Council. He recognized the City Staff saying Columbia had the best staff of any city its size. Mr. Hutton thanked the citizens for their input on various issues.

(D) Comments by Council Member Loveless

Mr. Loveless thanked his wife, Connie, for her support. He remarked it was a pleasure and privilege to represent the Fourth Ward on the City Council. He also stated he was appreciative of being re-elected and having the opportunity to serve the citizens again.

(E) Comments by the City Manager

Mr. Beck congratulated Mayor Hindman and Council Members Hutton and Loveless and commented that he was looking forward to continuing their working relationship. He pointed out the dedication and hard work of the City Council. Mr. Beck recognized the City Staff and asked them to stand. He also recognized his wife, Delilah, and thanked her for her help and support.

(F) Election of Mayor Pro-tem

Mayor Hindman made the motion that Mr. Hutton be elected Mayor Pro-tem. The motion was seconded by Mr. Janku and approved unanimously by voice vote.

(G) Appointment of Council Committees by Mayor

Mayor Hindman made appointments to the following committees:

Bob Hutton

Jim Loveless

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 5:25 p.m.
