BOARD OF MECHANICAL EXAMINERS: 1 vacancy with term to expire June 17, 2016. Must be a layperson and a resident of the City of Columbia. The Board is empowered to give examinations for mechanical heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration licenses and certificates. Monthly meetings held on the second Tuesday of the month at 5:00 p.m.
BUILDING CONSTRUCTION CODES COMMISSION: 3 vacancies with terms to expire August 1, 2016 and August 1, 2017. One alternate member is needed from each of the following categories: person experienced in fire prevention, professional engineer (experience in electrical/mechanical), and master plumber. The Commission periodically reviews and makes recommendations relating to building construction codes. Monthly meetings held on the fourth Monday of the month at 4:30 p.m.
CITY OF COLUMBIA NEW CENTURY FUND INC. BOARD: 3 vacancies with terms to expire September 30, 2017. Must have an interest in the future of the City of Columbia and the funding needs required to achieve future success, and must be current residents and qualified electors of the City of Columbia. The New Century Fund, Inc. is a Missouri not-for-profit corporation. Meetings held on call.
CITIZENS POLICE REVIEW BOARD: 1 vacancy with term to expire November 1, 2016. Must be a resident of Columbia and a registered voter. Members cannot be employed by the City, be a party to any pending litigation against the City, be an elected public office holder, or be a candidate for elected public office. Members should reflect the cultural and racial diversity of Columbia and have no serious criminal record. A criminal history of all applicants of this Board will be conducted and the City Council will be advised of any convictions for violations of federal, state or local law. The Board reviews appeals from the police chief’s decisions on alleged police misconduct, hosts public meetings and educational programs for residents and police officers, and reviews and makes recommendations on police policies, procedures and training. Meetings held on the second Wednesday of the month at 7:00 p.m.
COLUMBIA VISION COMMISSION: 1 vacancy with term to expire December 15, 2016 for a coordinating committee member. Must be a resident of Boone County, not residing within the city limits of Columbia and must have demonstrated a commitment to the visioning process. Candidates will be evaluated on the ability to work with data and understand systematic relationships, the ability to work collaboratively, management skills, independence, existing memberships or positions, and contributions to the diversity of the Commission. The Commission tracks, monitors and assists with the implementation of the visioning process. Meetings held on the fourth Monday of the month at 5:30 p.m.
CONVENTION AND VISITORS ADVISORY BOARD: 7 vacancies with terms to expire September 30, 2016. Four must be owners or operators of a hotel or motel within the City limits. All shall have demonstrated by past activities an interest in the convention and tourism business. The Board shall advise the City on the use of the funds created by the hotel and motel tax. Monthly meetings held on the last Monday of the month at 12:00 p.m.
ENVIRONMENT AND ENERGY COMMISSION: 1 vacancy with term to expire June 1, 2017. Must be a qualified voter of the City and have knowledge in matters pertaining to the environment. The Commission serves in an advisory capacity for all matters pertaining to environmental protection and conservation. Monthly meetings held on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m.
FINANCE ADVISORY AND AUDIT COMMITTEE: 1 vacancy with term to expire December 31, 2016. Must be a commercial banker with knowledge of public finance and investment banking, and a qualified voter and resident of the City for at least one year prior to appointment. The Committee makes recommendations on financial matters to the Council as needed. Meetings held on call.
HUMAN SERVICES COMMISSION: 1 vacancy with term to expire December 31, 2014. Must be a qualified voter and resident of the City of Columbia. Members shall not serve on the board of directors or be employed by any organization which applies for funding through the Commission or which receives funding upon recommendation of the Commission. (Each academic and administrative unit of the University of Missouri shall be considered a separate organization and each school of the Columbia Public School District shall be considered a separate organization.) The Commission advises the City in all matters regarding the planning and contracting for human service programs to adequately meet the needs of the citizens. MAYOR’S COUNCIL ON PHYSICAL FITNESS AND HEALTH: 2 vacancies with terms to expire November 30, 2014 and November 30, 2016. The Council educates the public about the importance of regular physical fitness activity and promotes, initiates and encourages local physical fitness and sports programs in the community. Monthly meetings held the first Tuesday of every even month at 12:30 p.m.
PERSONNEL ADVISORY BOARD: 5 vacancies with terms to expire November 30, 2015 and September 30, 2017. Three regular members and two alternate members to serve in the absence of, or disqualification of, the regular members are needed. All must be residents and registered qualified voters of the City, and shall have significant, substantive knowledge of social, legislative, political, and administrative factors affecting personnel management and employee relations. In addition, members must not hold a lucrative position in City government nor any other lucrative public office during their terms. The Board advises the Council on its findings, opinions, various conclusions and recommendations on the status of the personnel system. Meetings held on call.
TAX INCREMENT FINANCING COMMISSION: 2 vacancies with terms to expire September 1, 2018. The Commission serves as an advisory body to the City Council as it relates to the consideration of tax increment financing proposals submitted by interested parties or initiated by any public agency in accordance with the Real Property Tax Increment Allocation Redevelopment Act.
