Born in St. Louis, Wright has lived in Columbia, Missouri since 1975. Wright received his undergraduate degree, in journalism, and law degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Wright is a practicing lawyer and represents school districts throughout the state. He is a former chair of the Missouri Council of School Attorneys and the Education Law Committee of the Missouri Bar Association.

A self-taught photographer with no formal art training, Wright’s career in photography started in the early 1990's with 35mm work published in calendars and postcards, then progressed to medium and large format. Prior to being selected for the city’s Commemorative Poster, Wright’s photography was recognized at the Missouri Arts Council’s “Missouri 50” statewide visual art competition.
